Gartner, Inc. forecasts that 4.9 billion connected things will be in used in 2015, a 30 percent increase from 2014, and will reach 25 billion by 2020.
The Internet of Things (IoT)* has become a powerful force for business transformation,
and its disruptive impact will be felt across all industries and all areas of society.
“The digital shift instigated by the Nexus of Forces (cloud, mobile, social and information), and boosted by IoT,
threatens many existing businesses. They have no choice but to pursue IoT, like they’ve done with the consumerization of IT,”
said Jim Tully, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner.
According to Gartner, Internet of Things market is rapidly rising and will maintain this uptrend continuously.
The simple definition of Internet of Things is; big data is generated with data through sensor and this data is stored in the cloud and processed and provided to users. This entire process is called IoT service.
According to the report by EMC and IDC, it is expected that digital data will be increased by double every two years because of IoT based on sensor, which generates vast amount of data. It is also expected to generate 44-gigabyte of data in 2020 when the amount of digital data that IoT generates will be explosive. (Source : www.chosun.com)
Although the dramatic increase of Internet of Things generates and stores a large amount of data, it is still hard to increase the value of data by itself. Therefore, we have to collect, manage, and analyze the big data.
The value of IoT is to extract and use valuable information from the generated data. There will be more cloud infrastructure in the future and exatually they are already increasing rapidly. The well known services are Amazon, IBM, MS, and Google.
We talked about ARMmbed that provides ecosystem which can easily develop IoT device platform in the previous curation.
I will introduce projects that show how to implement IoT cloud service with WIZwiki-W7500 registered in mbed platform in this curation.
After users connect WIZwiki-W7500 to Thinger.io, they can easily control WIZwiki-W7500 through Dash Board provided by Thinger.io and check the data collected by all sorts of sensors with WIZwiki-W7500 using UI that they want.
Second project works with cloud service called Axeda.
We not only replace Thinger.io from first project with Axeda, but also used WizFi-250 for Wi-Fi function. Sensing data will be stored in Axeda. We can check them through UI provided by Axeda.
